Our History

Starting in 1868 in the United States, The Fleischmann Company enjoyed tremendous success by pursuing every opportunity to innovate, expand, and serve its customers: the commercial baker and the individual household. In 1876 the Company established itself in Canada.

By the early 20th century, the Company merged with four other food corporations to create Standard Brands, Incorporated. Under this new structure, the Company achieved even greater dimensions and success than it had after the American Civil War. Throughout this period the goals and objectives remained the same: excellence in scientific research, development of innovative products and process solutions, and superior customer service — all of which continue as hallmarks of the Company.

By the year 2004, the Company had been acquired several times and, most recently Associated British Foods purchased Burns Philp’s yeast and bakery ingredients businesses across the globe, including Fleischmann’s Yeast, along with other businesses to form AB Mauri^®. AB Mauri is dedicated to serving the commercial baker. The former consumer division of Fleischmann’s Yeast was merged into another Associated British Foods company in North America known as ACH Food Companies.

Today what started as The Fleischmann Company is known as AB Mauri Fleischmann’s^™ – the North American region for AB Mauri. In 2009, the Fleischmann’s Yeast^® corporate identity changed to AB Mauri Fleischmann’s to reflect the integration of two well-respected baking industry leaders - Fleischmann’s Yeast and Innovative Cereal Systems - both divisions of AB Mauri Food Inc.

AB Mauri Fleischmann’s continues as a market leader in fresh, instant and active dry yeast as well as other quality bakery ingredients, including enzyme-based dough improvers. We sell yeast under the Fleischmann’s Yeast brand name. Our extensive line of quality bakery ingredients, including dough improvers, leaveners, tablets, mold inhibitors, vinegars & acidulants and syrups & malts, are marketed under the AB Mauri Bakery Ingredients brand name.
